It's everything Bombay. There's the Generation Next painting with gusto. Everyone has a point to make. The sign of our times.
Che Guevara rubs shoulders with Bhagat Singh.

The Beatles.

Recession.

Global warming.

And if you go there, don't miss the bemused pavement dweller. This was his home. Till the BMC demolished every single hut that existed on the road. And made it sparkling clean. And gave much required parking space for school buses, trucks and tempos. I guess that's collateral damage. At least the fancy buildings in the vicinity can get a good price - "Tulsi Pipe Road pura saaf kar diya".
Don't miss the bemused pavement dweller. This is his home. He sleeps there. He lives there. Five feet of length to sleep on and live on. His home. His wall too.
That's Bombay for you. A collective expression of everything this mad city is. Poverty, art, graffiti. Youth, old, impoverished, rich. Slums, high-rise. Collective chaos. One expression. One wall. One city.

The Shiv Sena - BJP when they were in power in Maharashtra between
1995-1999 did the following negative things for the Bombay region:
1. They changed the name of Bombay to Mumbai to erase evidence of the
city's past and cosmopolitanism and multi-lingual character.
2. They changed the names of Sahar Airpot, Victoria Terminus, Prince of
Wales Musuem, Crawford Market and many other landmarks, historic places,
streets, roads, bridges in honour of Maratha
warriors/saints/freedomfighters/politicians.
3. They passed the Slum Rahabilation Policy which rewarded land encroachers
with free apartments.
4. They passed a rule that 80% of the jobs in the bombay region should be
reserved for the Marathi people due to which many MNCs ignored the bombay
region and many existing industries from bombay region shifted to other
states.
5. The shiv sena has been controlling the Bombay Muncipal Corporation for
the last 20 years but they did not do anything to prevent the growth of
slums in bombay region.
6. The CONGRESS-NCP which has been ruling Maharashtra state for the last 10
years have also harmed the bombay/konkan region by clearing land
acquisition files for large residential complexes, SEZs,etc without
carrying out any studies on how this will impact the natives, environment,
water supply and electricity supply in the bombay/konkan region.
MAHARASHTRAs ECONOMY:
An important feature of Maharashtra 's economy is its pathetic dependence
on the Bombay Metropolitan region. The Bombay Metropolitan region accounts
for 75 per cent of the industrial activity in Maharashtra and nearly 65 per
cent of the factory workers in the State. It is because of Bombay that
Maharashtra appears to be India 's most urbanished and industrially
advanced State. But excluding Bombay, even now, Maharashtra is not merely
as backward as any other state in India but in certain respects indeed more
backward than many other less industrialized states of the country. The
infrastructure of the economy of rural Maharashtra is not much developed,
Villages in Maharashtra generally lack adequate means of transport and
communication. Particularly road mileage in Maharashtra is found woefully
inadequate when compared to that in many less industrialized states in
India.
