It is utterly shocking to know that the owner of Taj Hotel and businessman Ratan Tata admits to have known about a possible terrorist attack on Taj and Oberoi hotels but for the fear of loss of profit he risked not letting the media , people , visitors and guests of the hotel know else people would have made a choice of staying away from the location. His attitude has caused lives of 183 people.
My deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones and to all in India affected by this horrific and inhuman act of hatred. Know that this American stands with you and will keep you my thoughts while you recover from the evil perpetrated by these religious zealot fiends.
To the poster above: Before you condemn the hotel owner, consider how many times a month a public place such as this, frequented by Western travelers, must receive threats of violence from these animals who hate anything not like themselves. To make them all public would be to end his business, despite most being meaningless. So, the question must be not whether he knew of a threat, but rather how credible the threat was. If it turns out he knew the threat was real and credible, or if he knew an attack was imminent, then you can lay the lives at his feet.
BA: Sad, depressing and says a lot about our people and their resilience. To be able to pick oneself up, brush off the dust and keep going is mind boggling.
Watched e-thing on TV. My sisters and I Spoke to the local news channel about our thoughts on this.
Felt helpess ya...damn helpless !! Shit happens and happens so fast na.

26th a bad omen for India
30 Nov 2008, 1404 hrs IST,PTI
NEW DELHI: Similar to the Mumbai terror attack, many other disasters have earlier occurred in India on the same date: the 26th, although 13 is considered the most ominous number worldwide.
Tsunami struck India on December 26, 2004, Gujarat earthquake was on January 26, 2001, blasts rocked Guwahati on May 26, 2007, and the Ahmedabad blasts this year were on September 26 before the Mumbai attack on 26th of this month.
Numerologists and astrologers claim it's no coincidence. "Numerologically, the number 26 is a very unlucky number. 26 comes to 8 (2+6=8) which brings in destruction," Mumbai-based numerologist Sanjay Jhumani said.
But famous astrologer Bejan Daruwalla disagrees, "It's not only on the basis of numerology. There are astrological reasons as well for the Mumbai attack."
"Mars and Saturn are in conjunction now. Astrologically, this is known as Angara Yoga which brings in destruction," he explains.
He says even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was born on the 26th (September 26) and our Republic Day is also on the 26th. "So the number is not always bad. Numerology also doesn't work every time."
This year, two terrorists strikes in India have been on the 26th. And another two on the 13th. Jaipur blast was on May 13 and Ahmedabad on July 26, followed by Delhi on September 13 and now Mumbai on 26th this month.
Earlier also, India has faced big attacks on the 13th. Serial blasts in Mumbai trains were on March 13, 2003 and Parliament was attacked on December 13, 2001.
Hopefully there will be a long big underscore below the list you've compiled and a Bollywood style 'The End' at the bottom...
Tall hopes?
scorpiogenius: Your wish has been granted by the empty headed US media, who have already returned to their love-fest with the new president elect and, apparently, forgotten all about the tragedy India is still working through. I wouldn't be surprised to see the entire evening news team break into a musical dance number, culminating, of course, with the anchor clasping his/her hands and gazing adoringly up at a portrait of Obama.
Bollywood is alive and well in US newsrooms across the nation.
Just saw your comment on my blog. thanks for your wishes.
Thought id comment, since Id been a slient reader of your blog since a while, so it was quite a coincidence!
Thanks all for your comments.
Serendipity - Thanks so much for coming over to my blog. It's an honour for me that I wish I can live up to. Once again, our thanks and wishes go out to your family.
For peace, prosperity and goodluck the panvati name Mumbai should be changed to Bombay which was the original name of the city. Somewhere in the early 17th century, a fisherwoman, by the name mumba, installed an idol of a hindu goddess at the Bori Bunder Creek (VT) in a makeshift temple and gave the temple her own name. The citys original name Bombay has been changed to Mumbai not in honour of any hindu goddess but in honour of a fisherwoman named Mumba. The kolis who are the original inhabitants of Bombay never demanded the renaming of Bombay to Mumbai. So why did Bal Thackeray the chief of shiv sena took personal interest in renaming Bombay to Mumbai. Bal Thackeray was a native of Pune why has he never demanded the renaming of pune to punaka the original name of that city.
Out of Bombays 1.8 crore population 25% are marathi migrants. The 25% marathi migrants in Bombay have cornered more than 90% jobs in BMC, BEST, police, state/central undertakings, etc and it is a baseless allegations of the Thackerays that the marathi migrants in Bombay have been sidelined.
The Political dominance of rich maratha politicians from western maharashtra have done injustice to the people of Konkan including Bombay and Vidharbha over the years. Some of the native leaders from konkan and Vidharbha have been demanding separate state to free themselves from the clutches of the rich maratha politicians. Some of the people who want Bombay to become a city state or union territory should instead join the native leaders of konkan and demand statehood for entire konkan ( thane, Bombay, raigad, ratnagiri, sindhudurg, goa). Bombay will bloom if it remains the finance capital of India and state capital of Konkan.
Statistics eventually numb by the scale they depict. And I wonder what story lurks behind each of the numbers!
