The beauty that is the Taj

Following up from my earlier post on Fatehpur Sikri, this post is on my visit to The Taj Mahal.

It has to be the most beautiful structure I've ever seen. I wish there was a full moon night for us to see it, I can't imagine what it must have looked like.

Thankfully, or at least from whatever I saw, the ASI has managed to keep the Taj and its adjoining structures much cleaner as compared to Fatehpur Sikri.

I was completely in awe of the Taj. Everything I’d heard and read, it all seemed to fade in oblivion when I saw it. Some feelings can’t be put in words and photos can’t convey feelings. For those who’ve been there, you probably know what I’m talking about.

Here are some photos.

After this trip to Agra, I think I may just have a thing for history after all. Even if it’s currently too small to fire up wanderlust.

Did the parakeet turn green in envy of the architectural marvel? :)

Lovely perspectives.

Thanks Anil - perhaps he/she was envious, but it also seemed to be at peace as it marveled at the Taj !

Good to see you back. And looks like it was a good holiday in Indian history.

Have a good New Year!

Sadly (and somewhat surprisingly, given that I stayed in Delhi for a decade) I haven't seen the Taj yet! Have to add that one to my must-see list too. So many places to see and so little time...

Incidently, an American friend brought his wife for the first time to India for a visit to the Taj. They enjoyed the visit very much, but the trip just after that where they ventured out of the beaten path and saw some of the more dirtier sights and smells of the city put her off so much, that she packed her bags and had to leave in a hurry!

Hi Shantanu - thanks for the comment and the visit.

I know what you feel like. I felt goofy seeing the Taj for the first time, considering the hazaar foreigners who come to see it from all corners of the world year after year ! Anyways, it is a magnificent sight and I do hope you get around to seeing it. Also hope your friend's wife is doing well !
